How to Help Your Baby Relax?

Your baby might love bath time or they might cry and try to avoid it like the plague. Bathing is a new experience for your newborn and sometimes takes some time for a bay to get used to and adjust. But if you want to help your baby enjoy their bath and relax then read on to find out how you can do just that below.

Keep Your Baby Snug and Warm

As with everything, bathing is a new experience for a baby, so you need to do everything in your power to make sure that the baby feels safe. Before you take them to the bathroom, undress your baby, wrap them in a towel and hold them close to you so that they feel secure. When you are in the bathroom, slowly unwrap the towel and lower the baby into the warm water to help with a smooth transition.

Check if the Water is Warm Enough

If your baby doesn’t like bathing, then it might be because  they feel it is too cold. One way to avoid this is to check how warm or cold the water might be. Ideally it is best if the water is around 37 degrees Celsuis, which is not too hot or cold. If you can see clearly that the baby is cold then you might want to go ahead and try to make the water warm enough.

Take it Step by Step

A baby can sense your feelings acutely and can mirror your emotions. If you are worried and agitated they might sense it and become unsettled too. While bath time can be stressful, it is best to try and keep calm and stay in the moment. One way to do this is to keep talking to your baby in a soft and mild voice so that they will keep calm too.

Use Some Toys Too

For babies who are slightly older, toys can also be a great way to add to the fun during bath time. You might want to get some floating toys like rubber ducks and let your baby play with them. Then gradually move them to the bathroom and extend the playtime there too. Some older babies might like to play in the bath with plastic cups. But keep an eye out and see if they drink bath water accidentally.

Use a Cloth to Cover the Face and Scalp

Pouring water directly on your baby’s scalp or face can be uncomfortable for many babies. You can choose to clean your baby’s face and scalp with a wet washcloth if this is son.

Try Some Bath-time Music

You might want to consider playing your baby’s favourite songs on your devices while you bathe them. Or you can simply sing these songs to them. The familiar songs will help your baby relax and make their bathing experience a fun one.
